Barbara E. (Bunce) Bement

            Barbara Bunce Bement, 90, of Centerville, passed away Friday morning March 15, 2024 at her home.

            Barb was born on May 12, 1933 in Union City, PA, a daughter of the late Alfred and Madelene Smith Bunce.  She was married to Dale R. Bement on October 10, 1953 in Ripley, NY.  He preceded her in death on September 29, 2016.

            Barb was a graduate of Bloomfield High School, class of 1951.  She then went on to graduate from Meadville City Hospital Nursing Program in September of 1954.  She worked as a registered nurse at Titusville Hospital, also as an industrial safety nurse, and finished her 38 year career at the Crawford County Care Center in October of 1994.  Barb was proud to have participated in the Nurse’s Health Study for 40 years.

            She loved farm life, helping her husband and son with chores, gardening, and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.  She also had special relationships with her amish friends and neighbors whom she loved dearly.  But, as anyone who knew Barb would say and remember, her passion was mowing (and re-mowing) her yard even as late as this past December.

            Barb is survived by a son, Dale Bement and wife Lucy of Centerville; a daughter, Debbie Smith and husband Scott of Hydetown; grandson, Daniel Bement and wife Kimberlee and great grandchildren, Annabelle and Garrett, all of Pittsburgh.  She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Pauline Lane and husband Jack of Easton, MD; and several nieces and nephews which include Carolyn Lane of Easton, MD.

            In addition to her parents and husband Dale, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Carson Bement; brothers, Richard and Raymond Bunce; and a nephew, Eddie Lane.

            Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville, PA 16354 on Wednesday March 20th from 6 to 8 PM and on Thursday from 10 to 11 AM at which time the funeral service will be conducted with Pastor Gary Kinnear officiating.

            Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery.

            Memorial contributions may be made to the Centerville Volunteer Fire Dept. or to the Centerville Ambulance Service, both at 39567 Centerville Rd. Centerville, PA 16404; or to a charity of one’s choice.
