Obituary of Harold Silvis

Harold R. “Dick” Silvis, 79, of Pleasantville, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018 at his residence.

            Dick was born on November 5, 1938 at Lickingville, PA, a son of the late Chalmer “Pooch” and Margaret Watkins Silvis.  He was married to Rosalee Sage on June 13, 1959 at Washington, PA.

            Dick had attended N. Clarion High School.  He had been employed at Vertical Seal in Pleasantville from where he retired in 2001.  He had also been employed at Allied Roll Builders and Keystone Honing in Pleasantville, as well as Quaker State and the former J&L Steel in Oil City.

            Dick was a veteran having served in the US Army.  He entered the service on April 24, 1957 at Pittsburgh, PA and was honorably discharged at Ft. Knox, KY to the local reserves on April 23, 1959.

            Dick was a former member of the Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Dept.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, and his faithful companion “Shaneeka”.  He enjoyed playing cards; listening to country music, especially Johnny Cash; watching westerns on TV; hunting, fishing and camping; and tinkering in his garage.  He was well known and liked in the Pleasantville community and was always offering help to those in need.

            Dick is survived by his wife of Pleasantville; three children, Stephen R. Silvis of Pleasantville, Shawn Silvis and wife Tammie of Tidioute, and Shereen Silvis of Port Orange, FL; the following grandchildren; Brandon Silvis and wife Raina of Richmond, VA, Mason Silvis of Virginia Beach, VA, Melissa Peate of Port Orange, FL, Kaitlon Silvis and fiancée Matt Joseph of Tidioute, and Morgon Silvis of Tidioute; two great grandchildren, Jessa Joseph and Jameson Silvis; two sisters, Joyce Sayre of Ohio and Betty McCloskey of Lickingville; three sisters-in-law, Joanne Silvis of Kingsman, TN, Val Jean Silvis of Tionesta, and Melissa Martin and fiancée Dan of Washington, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews; and two former daughter in laws, Carol Masiker Silvis, and Debra Jones Taylor.

            In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Dalton W. “Bill” Silvis, Max L. Silvis, and Howard Silvis; and a sister, Virginia Kahnell.

            Family and friends may attend a memorial service on Friday, February 9th from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon at the Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Dept. in Pleasantville.  A luncheon for family and friends will follow.

            Full military rites will be conducted at the firehall at 11:00 AM.
